X-ray
- No indication

CT
- Enlarged lymphatic nodes in mediastinum
- Aortic aneurysm
- Aortic dissection
- Suspected tumour, thymoma
- Chronic pulmonary embolism
- When there is a strong suspicion of acute pulmonary embolism, the patient should be referred to hospital.

MRI
- Used as a supplement to CT if the patient cannot tolerate i.v. contrast or for assessment of tumour growth in the heart/large blood vessels
