X-ray
- No indication

Ultrasound
- Revealing thyroid nodules, often little sensitivity to distinguish benign/malignant, supplementary fine needle biopsy gives histological diagnosis

CT
- Assess intra thoracic development of goitreNB: With thyrotoxicose, Graves disease and multinodular struma care should be taken in the use of contrast containing iodine.
NB: If thyroid cancer is suspected, contrast containing iodine must not be given, since any treatment with radioactive iodine would not be effective until 2 months later.

MRI
- No indication as primary examination
